8   Link   Lone Rock Hiking
A quiet, isolated sandstone bluff offering long views. Lone Rock is an outing with a story line I like. The walk in, through pleasant oak-pine woods, is just long enough to build suspense. When the sandstone bluff finally comes into sight there is a sense of reward, of compensation for curiosity and effort. The hidden route to the top, and the long views, add to that sentiment. Most remarkable about those views, stretching across the forested flats and buttes of central Wisconsin is that little that is made by humans is in sight. Bluffs and mounds in Black River State Forest, some 40 miles away, show on the northwest horizon.

11   Link   Fishing Castle Rock Flowage
Castle Rock Flowage / Petenwell Lake (Adams County)
Castle Rock Lake and Petenwell Lakes are located in Adams County. This is a fantastic recreational area with numerous public launch sites, excellent fishing as well as many other outdoor activities. Castle Rock Lake is Wisconsin's fourth largest lake. It covers sixteen thousand acres, and has approximately sixty miles of shoreline. The lake's depth ranges
from 8 to 20 feet in most places, with some areas as deep as 30
feet. The structure created from the river beds makes Castle
Rock a very productive and consistent fishing lake. The lake is
abundant with walleye, white bass, and crappie and there are
also healthy populations of northern pike, largemouth bass,
smallmouth bass and panfish.

Lake Petenwell is Wisconsin's second largest lake with 23,040
acres and a maximum depth of 42 feet. The lake offers excellent
walleye fishing along with bass, panfish and many other species.
Petenwell Lake is also producing significant catches of musky.
Most of the lake shoreline is controlled by the Wisconsin River
Power Company and will remain the way it is. The lots that are
available have a 100 foot setback providing a more natural look
for the lake. This sand bottom lake is great for swimming, sailing,
boating and fishing. Because of the lake's size, there is plenty of
room on the water for pleasure boaters and fishing boats.
